Another year goes by without the SUSS School of Law winning the CJ’s Cup…

In the 2026 edition of the CJ’s Cup, we were eliminated in the semi-finals by eventual champions Wong Partnership and eventually placed fourth.

Well it was not all gloomy. We managed to make it out of the group stage two years in a row. Also, the football team has garnered a rather strong following. Remember the days where we could barely make a team? Now not only do we have a team, we have supporters to boast!

I think the SUSS School of Law had the strongest support. And might I just say… I think we have the most stylish jerseys.

Ok so this was the team this year.

The team + a future star. Adam’s son just had to be in an Argentina jersey next to a delusional Nic who is still adamant that Ronaldo is better than Messi.

I digressed…

The front row: Danish, Apri, Sheikh, Nic, Adam.
The back row: Shukri, Vic, Jansen, Stefano.

What a team.

Danish is the imposing figure that holds the fort, Apri is the ever reliable centre back, Sheikh is our number 10 and our captain, Nic is the ever eager and deadly poacher in front of goal, Adam’s turn and shoot is the cheat code that opponents cannot deal with.

Shukri is miles better than Andre Onana and some say even De Gea, Vic bends it like Beckham and is our tricky winger, Jansen is the calm left footed Gareth Bale that turns defence into attack in an instant and Stefano (the newly appointed vice captain and heir to the captaincy) has the calmness in front of goal that only players like Harry Kane has.

For the record, this is the first time there has been a vice captain. And it is to aid with the leadership transition. So if you are interested in joining the SUSS School of Law football team for training, games and tournaments, then please contact Stefano or Sheikh.

Oh yes, Joel was the team manager for the CJ’s Cup. This is him in his usual outfit.

Here is the team in action.

See how big the entourage is?

We won all of our group stage games except for one. There was some uncalled for altercation in the game which we lost. While my team mates were playing to win, they were competitive and did not deserve to be threatened on the pitch. The team raised the matter with the organisers and in my personal opinion, this is a game and there was no need for violence to present itself on the pitch. I believe referees should be able to control the behaviour of the players on the pitch.

Whatever the case, we made it out of the group stage by topping the group. Here is the team discussing tactics.

Manager Joel should really look at his dressing. There was a manager in business attire and he was in a t-shirt with holes all over…

The team has come so far. We now have a decent number of players and can even participate in 11-a-side matches. The team is looking for new players from those who are in the law school and those entering the law school. If you are keen to play for the law school, please reach out to the team. You can reach out to any person in the team and they can direct you to the captain and vice captain.

As for the ever elusive CJ’s Cup… let’s try again next year. Let’s bring it back boys!

Back to life and lego for Nic.

No surprises as to what his favourite player is…

The World Cup is just around the corner and football fever is permeating the team. We should be watching some World Cup matches together. Any new football fanatics from SUSS keen on joining us?

Yours sincerely,

Daryl
